Obituary for James Lisenby Hanlon, Sr.

James Lisenby Hanlon, Sr., age 83, passed away on January 18, 2023. He was born on July 19, 1939, to the late James “J.C.” Hanlon and Mary Frances Lewis in Panama City, Florida. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Myrna Loy Kimbrel Hanlon; brother, Claude “Jack” Hanlon and his twin brother, John Ellis Hanlon. James grew up in Gulf County, FL and was a graduate of Wewahitchka High School and Chipola Junior College. He lived and raised a family in Port St. Joe, FL where he worked for Sylvachem Corporation and was a Senior Lab Technician before his retirement. He was a member of the Gulf County School Board in Florida for 12 years. He would campaign for this position every day on his run around town, talking and joking with everyone he passed. In doing so, he earned the nickname, The Running Candidate. He was a past president and longtime coach of Port St. Joe Little League where he enjoyed coaching baseball. James was an accomplished distance runner in the panhandle area of FL for many years and completed multiple marathons, including The Boston Marathon and The New York Marathon, which he was able to run with his son before hanging up his running shoes for good. After spending the past 30 years in the Charleston/Folly Beach, SC area, he and Myrna had relocated this past fall to Hogansville, GA to be with his son and family.

James is survived by his son, James “Jay” Lisenby Hanlon, Jr. (Karen); daughters, Linda Elizabeth Donnelly (Michael) and Donna Hanlon; stepson Stephen Hiott; stepdaughter Christina Lynn Neaman (Lonnie ); brothers, Charles Ray Hanlon, Gene Hanlon (Betty Sue) and Waymon Hanlon; sisters Eva Marie Daniels (Dan), and Frances Gable; grandchildren, Jessica Lee Henderson (Jeffrey), Griffin Hanlon, Garrett Hanlon, Malory Jahrmarkt, and Haley Jahrmarkt; Kristine Leigh Neaman-Fail (Ricky); Lisa Renee Neaman; great-grandchildren, Olivia Henderson; Vanessa Simpson and Alex Fail; extended family and friends.
