Obituary for Duke Wellington, III Hicks
Mr. Duke Wellington Hicks, III passed away on Friday evening, December 30, 2022. He was born in Gaffney, South Carolina to the late Duke Wellington Hicks, Jr. and Marianna Marsh Hicks. Mr. Hicks graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in 1963. He began his career with Georgia Power. From 1973 to 1993, he worked for Georgia Kraft. In 1993, he left Temple-Inland (Georgia Kraft) and retired from Leaf River - Georgia Pacific in 2003.
Professionally, Mr. Hicks was well known as an outstanding manager who always considered his men before himself. He was highly respected and earned the loyalty and trust of all those who both reported to him and worked with him.
Personally, Mr. Hicks was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who would sacrifice all that he had to benefit his family. Mr. Hicks was a born-again Christian who walked with God and lived his life the way Jesus Christ would want him to.
Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judith Daniel Hicks; his children, Mark Daniel Hicks (Lisa) of Andalusia, Alabama, and Mary Catherine Passmore (Ken) of LaGrange, Georgia; his sister, Anna Hicks Bulloch (Don) of Riverdale, Georgia; his grandchildren, Marianna Hicks Morris (Brandon) of Gray, Georgia and Taylor Daniel Hicks (Dani) of Grenada Mississippi; his great-grandchildren, Aubrey Hicks, Bryce Hicks, Dovie Hicks, Julia Morris, and Mallie Morris. A memorial service will be held to honor the life of Mr. Duke Wellington Hicks, III at Callaway Baptist Church, 310 John Lovelace Rd, Lagrange, GA 30241, on January 14, 2023, at 1:00 PM. Pastor Brad Thompson will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mr. Hicks to Callaway Baptist Church, 310 John Lovelace Rd, Lagrange, GA 30241 or the Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
